Judgement Day 2001 Match Reviews:

William Regal Vs Rikishi – 6.8

Very average opener that includes lets just say one of the more effective stink faces. However Regal wins with the Regal Cutter.

Kurt Angle Vs Chris Beniot (2 out of 3 falls, 1st fall pin only, 2nd fall submission only, 3rd fall ladder match for Angles gold medals) – 8.6

Marginally better than their match the previous month at Backlash as the different stipulations broke the match up. Benoit wins the first fall after an Olympic Slam, Angle wins the second fall and also retrieves his medals by climbing the ladder after Edge and Christian interfere on his behalf.

Rhyno Vs Test Vs Big Show for the Hardcore Championship – 7.0

Average hardcore title match, not sure why Rhyno was involved as the feud was mainly between Test and Big Show. Rhyno picks up the win to retain his title.

Chyna Vs Lita for the WWE Womans Championship – 7.7

Good match between two of the best WWE Womans wrestlers of all time. Lita wrestles the as the underdog and does a good job of nearly upsetting the much stronger Chyna. However, Chyna is too much for her and picks up the win after a powerbomb.

Triple H vs Kane for the Intercontinental Title (Chain Match) – 7.9

Very good match for the IC Title, the addition of the chain stipulation only made it better. Some very good action including The Game getting busted open. Kane captures his first IC title after Steve Austin interferes for Triple H but accidentally hits him with a chair.

Tag Team Turmoil Match Featuring APA, Perry Saturn & Dean Malenko, Dudley Boyz, X-Pac & Justin Credible, Hardy Boyz, Chris Jericho & Chris Benoit and Edge & Christian – 8.1

Despite lasting over half an hour this match totally surprised me and just got better and better with each team. The action was exceptionally good with the introduction of Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit, who go on to win the match and become number 1 contenders for the Tag Titles.

Steve Austin Vs The Undertaker for the WWE Title (No Holds Barred) – 8.5

Fast paced match between these two legends that always had chemistry with each other. They both work at a blistering pace and provide some excellent brawling action including Austin being choke slammed through the announcers table. Austin wins after interference from Triple H and Vince McMahon. The winner of the worst timing award goes to Kane who ran in about three minutes after Triple H and just after Austin made the pin.

Judgement Day 2001 Event Analysis

Apart from the opening match a very solid PPV offering. In terms of noteworthy matches the main event features two of the greatest of all time, and on a lesser note the woman title match features the most dominant female wrestler in the WWE against one of the most exciting. I was also expecting the tag team turmoil match to be a complete bore but I was pleasantly surprised.

"Now here comes a real pair of jackasses!"

Jim Ross introduce Edge and Christian to the tag team turmoil match.
